Object Segmentation by Shape Matching with Wasserstein Modes

چکیده
We gradually develop a novel functional for joint variational object segmentation and shape matching. The formulation, based on the Wasserstein distance, allows modelling of local object appearance, statistical shape variations and geometric invariance in a uniform way. For learning of class typical shape variations we adopt a recently presented approach and extend it to support inference of deformations during segmentation of new query images. The resulting way of describing and fitting trained shape variations is in style reminiscent of contour-based variational shape priors, but does not require an intricate conversion between the contour and the region representation of shapes. A wellfounded hierarchical branch-and-bound scheme, based on local adaptive convex relaxation, is presented, that provably finds the global minimum of the functional.

Bottom-Up Segmentation Based Robust Shape Matching in the Presence of Clutter and Occlusion
In this paper, we present a robust shape matching approach based on bottom-up segmentation. We show how over-segmentation results can be used to overcome both ambiguity of contour matching and occlusion. To measure the shape difference between a template and the object in the input, we use oriented chamfer matching. However, in contrast to previous work, we eliminate the affection of the backgr...

This paper presents an object contour detection using the object shape model. First, we detect the change of background luminance ratio outside the bounding box of object. Second, the temporal segmentation is obtained by mesh based motion activity detection. A new combined mask is composed of temporal segmentation result and shape model by OR operation. Finally, for modification of the mask, we...
متن کاملVariational Image Segmentation and Cosegmentation with the Wasserstein Distance
We present novel variational approaches for segmenting and cosegmenting images. Our supervised segmentation approach extends the classical Continuous Cut approach by a global appearance-based data term enforcing closeness of aggregated appearance statistics to a given prior model. This novel data term considers non-spatial, deformationinvariant statistics with the help of the Wasserstein distan...
متن کاملTexture Segmentation via Non-local Non-parametric Active Contours
This article introduces a novel active contour model that makes use of non-parametric estimators over patches for the segmentation of textured images. It is based on an energy that enforces the homogeneity of these statistics. This smoothness is measured using Wasserstein distances among discretized probability distributions that can handle features in arbitrary dimension. It is thus usable for...
متن کاملShape Representations for Object Recognition
The problem of object recognition has been at the forefront of computer vision research in the last decade. The most successful approaches have used mainly edgeor texture-based representations. The shape of the object outline, albeit widely used for pre-segmented objects, has found limited applicability to the detection problem in real images. The fact that shape is a truly holistic global perc...
